     FAQS

    How is NHSN Different?

We are not owned by anyone. We are a non-profit membership organization that is led by volunteering leaders, of which most are Latino sales and marketing professionals or entrepreneurs.  On average, the leadership team is a seasoned group with over 20 years of sales or marketing experience each.   We are not a training company, nor are we a "chamber of commerce" type organization.  Since we are a non-profit member based association organized specifically to provide value to business-to-business and business-to-consumer sales and marketing professionals, we ask that individuals join at a very reasonable rate to support the overall standards of excellence.  We do not specifically target "certain types" of sales or marketing professionals, nor are we specifically a marketing based association.  We believe that Sales and Marketing are separate but equal professions and that each needs to support and to communicate in orderly to be successful.

What's in it for the people that started this?

Those that founded NHSN have all been full-time sales and marketing professionals, business development, advertisers, marketing managers, academics, sales managers, or trainers. The individuals who founded the association have not received any financial reward from the association, and they are not in it "for the money".

Most have been successful in their own business, in their own territories, or their own career. They built NHSN based on their network and just asking for help.  The NHSN bylaws are publicly available and explain all of this.

    What credibility do you have?

We love this question! Our credibility is growing daily, with major Fortune 500 companies downloading and reviewing our mission and Corporate Focus Areas, using us to add support to their corporate Affinity Groups, managing the bridge (or gap) between sales and marketing, as well as providing an environment where Latinos or non-Latinos professionals with similar interests find an opportunity for “true Business Exchange.”  This is NHSN’s common theme which is creating opportunities in the sales and marketing industry.  At any of our events, NHSN has a clear, focused professional agenda which will always start and end on time.  NHSN does not mix in any political or social agenda nor is any type of alcohol being served.

Why did you create such a "Professional Association?"

THREE WORDS.  It was time.  NHSN is the first of its kind in the nation that has such a focus of Promoting Latino Sales and Marketing Professionals.  To be frank, we created the NHSN to address and take a stand for the reality that Latino Sales and Marketing Professionals are NOT being seen as a vital part of today's business world. Those in sales know how extremely complex the job is. The push for revenue in today's economy has increased the speed at which a Sales Professional must operate. Sales in working with Marketing Professionals are the engine of the global economy, so how come business people don't exactly get a "warm fuzzy" feeling when a Sales Professional calls them? Or why does it take so long to deliver high quality marketing material?  What about marketing and selling to largest minority population group?  How can you, as a professional create more impact in the corporate landscape?  We believe that Latinos, like most minorities are hitting the corporate glass ceiling and need to match up with leading organizations that have a better understanding of promoting Latino professionals and understand their past and future contribution.

    Hasn't This Been Done Before?

No other Association in the nation has this mission.  We strongly believe in the value of diversity in Professional Sales and Marketing, and we believe that what works for one Professional may not work for another. With our tools, value-added services, and events, we are creating a professional community that has a common terminology, common vision, and common purpose.
Isn't this like a "lead-share" or a "training program" or a networking group?

No we are not like that at all. We are a professional association that offers events that benefit our membership. We offer events (such as lead share, etc) that can provide immediate value, however we don't stop there!

What is the significance of the name

"National Hispanic Sales Network" Our tagline is Promoting Latino Sales and Marketing Professionals

National = Unity, Outreach, General Marketplace, Diversity, All Sales and Marketing Professionals included

Hispanic = Government label which we’ll recognize, but the “Latino” in our tagline represents the community we serve

Sales = Hey, there's nothing wrong with the word "Sales!" or business development, but we all know, one can’t do it without marketing

    Network
= Let’s be real – business is developed through people you know or be introduced to.

What is the value in joining the NHSN?

In a nutshell, it is summed up through Collaboration, Education, and Leadership. Collaboration is defined as the ability to collaborate through a formal and informal network of high caliber sales and marketing professionals, entrepreneurs and other “like minded” individuals through chapter and virtual events, and the annual conference.

Education is defined as becoming more aware of current training programs and events that will enhance your professional objectives.

Leadership is defined as cutting edge thought and practice in the profession of sales and marketing.

The bottom line: We will help you develop more revenue for your company which leads to more money in your pocket.

I think this is a good idea! How can I help?

Our goal is to make this profession even more exciting and fun. We try to do as much for you as possible, but the fact remains that you'll have to put some hours into this initiative as well. We'll be very specific and help you as much as possible. But the bottom line is, we need volunteers who are willing to help grow initiative--but it will require work. It's our toughest challenge. Check out our value proposition before you decide! If you still have more questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're more than happy to talk with you.

How long has the NSHN been around?

The founders, Antonio L. Lugo III and Freddie Torres started it through a small informal group in 2003 in Chicago.  After a series of informal meetings and a focus group session, the founders realized that we had something here, but needed more guidance and structure.  We created a founding informal board and had a coaching arrangement with Smith Bucklin, the world’s largest association management and professional services firm based in Chicago.  Smith Bucklin helped NSHN launch its vision in 2006 with 5 events and developing a network of over 3000 professionals.  Today, the first chapter is based in Chicago and will be formalized in 2007 as we look at chapters in New York, Florida, and California.

How many people work for the NHSN?

NHSN does not have paid staff.  This is a volunteer-based and managed organization.  The good news is that 100% of any revenue is re-directed into membership services.
